Following the arrival of Christianity, Biblical texts translated into Russian were richly decorated with an exceptional visual tradition that blends both Eastern and Western manners of ornamentation. Born from encounters between diverse groups Christian, Celtic, Germanic and the ethnic peoples of Central Asia these designs and motifs are at the heart of Russian culture.
